Peer Reviewer Process
Sociovera: Journal of Social, Family, and Community Dynamics Studies applies a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential throughout the review process. This process is designed to ensure fair, objective, and rigorous evaluation of submitted manuscripts.
Review Stages
1. Initial Screening
Upon submission, each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial screening to assess its alignment with the journal's focus and scope, compliance with the manuscript preparation guidelines, completeness of the submission, and overall academic suitability. Manuscripts are also screened for plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct.
Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's basic requirements or are outside the journal's scope may be rejected at this stage without being sent for peer review. The initial screening is normally completed within 1–2 weeks.
2. Reviewer Assignment
Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are assigned to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area of the manuscript.
The identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential throughout the double-blind review process.
3. Peer Review
Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on several criteria, including:
- Originality and relevance of the research
- Clarity and significance of the research objectives
- Appropriateness and rigor of the research methodology
- Quality and validity of the analysis and findings
- Relevance and adequacy of the literature review
- Quality of the discussion and interpretation
- Contribution to theory, research, policy, or practice
- Clarity, organization, and academic quality of the manuscript
The standard review period is approximately 2–4 weeks, although the actual duration may vary depending on reviewer availability and the complexity of the manuscript.
4. Editorial Decision
After receiving the reviewers' reports, the editor evaluates the manuscript and makes an editorial decision. Possible decisions include:
- Accept without Revision
- Minor Revision
- Major Revision
- Reject
The editorial decision is based on the reviewers' recommendations, the quality of the manuscript, its relevance to the journal's scope, and the editor's overall assessment.
5. Revision
When revisions are required, authors must submit a revised manuscript within the specified deadline, normally within 2 weeks for minor revisions or within 4 weeks for major revisions, unless an extension is granted by the editor.
Authors should also provide a point-by-point response to the reviewers' comments, clearly explaining how each comment has been addressed. Where a suggestion has not been followed, authors should provide an appropriate justification.
6. Final Decision and Acceptance
The revised manuscript may be evaluated by the editor and, when necessary, returned to the original reviewers for further assessment. The editor makes the final decision based on the adequacy of the revisions and the overall quality of the manuscript.
A manuscript is formally accepted for publication only after the editor confirms that all necessary revisions have been satisfactorily addressed.
Estimated Review Timeline
The estimated time from submission to the initial editorial decision is approximately 6–8 weeks. However, the actual timeframe may vary depending on the manuscript, reviewer availability, revision requirements, and other factors affecting the editorial process.
Sociovera is committed to conducting the peer-review process in a fair, transparent, timely, and academically rigorous manner while maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of the review process.
